Afonso Cabral (solo) + Minta & The Brook Trout (solo) + Festa Louva-a-Deus

21:00They will perform solo in this concert, joining forces for a few songs – having some shared repertoire and being fans of each other makes it easy. At the end, João Vaz Silva aka Sound of Silva and Filipa Marta aka Phizz join the party as DJs louva-a-deus (praying mantis DJs), a small collective that has been performing at events promoted by this Lisbon agency and studio.
Afonso Cabral (Lisbon, 1986) has been a constant, though sometimes discreet (as he prefers), presence on the Lisbon music scene for the last 15 years—whether with his band You Can’t Win, Charlie Brown; as an integral part of the backing bands for Bruno Pernadas, Minta & The Brook Trout, or Mais Alto!; or as a songwriter for other artists. In the latter field, a highlight is “Anda Estragar-me os Planos” (Come Spoil My Plans), written in partnership with Francisca Cortesão for the 2018 Festival da Canção (Portuguese Song Contest) for the voice of Joana Barra Vaz and later reinterpreted by various singers, such as Salvador Sobral and Tim Bernardes. After “Morada” (Dwelling) in 2019, he released his second solo album, “Demorar” (To Linger), at the end of 2024. This is a record of new songs with Cabral’s voice at the center, featuring collaborations with the Japanese artist Shugo Tokumaru and Manuela Azevedo of the band Clã. “Demorar” has been very well received by critics, frequently making it onto "Best of the Year" lists, notably taking 3rd place for Blitz and Radar and 11th place for Antena 3, among many others.
Francisca Cortesão (Porto, 1983) has been imagining songs almost since she learned to sign her own name. She started taking herself more and more seriously until the release of an album by her first band, and since then, she has followed the reverse path—the more she writes, the more albums and concerts she participates in. She is a member of Mão Verde and Mais Alto!, who create music for younger audiences, and writes for other artists, such as Ana Bacalhau or Cristina Branco. She honorably lost the 2018 edition of the Festival da Canção with ‘Anda Estragar-me os Planos’. In Minta & The Brook Trout, there is no shortage of romantic songs about the most prosaic topics, sung in the English of her bedside books and records. In the absence of her heart’s band, she is also pleased to present them in their most skeletal form: voice and guitar.
